DEEPER: New Wineskin Church

blog.png

In this season we are going deeper. We are designed to live in the deeper reality of God. This is the more certain reality of eternity which gave birth to the temporal realm that will one day pass away.

Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. NIV

The eternal reality of God’s Truth will remain. Building our lives on this reality is what will last and must be our priority in humility before Him.

Isaiah 33:5-6 The LORD is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with his justice and righteousness. 6 He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure. NIV

NEW WINESKIN CHURCH:

The new wineskin church is a highly relational family that is deeply devoted to discipleship as a way of life. This involves mothers and fathers who live consecrated lives raising up sons and daughters to do the same.

Mark 2:22 No one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.” NIV

A wineskin is an ancient container made of animal skin. A new wineskin skin comes from a recent death. Recently as I was praying, I heard the Lord say, “My servant Moses is dead.” I went to Scripture to read more about the text where I knew this phrase.

Joshua 1:2 "Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them--to the Israelites. NIV

I believe it is time to press on and move in. The previous grace of enduring and surviving has shifted. Moses called people out and walk them through a time of the wilderness. The death of Moses marked the end of the wilderness.

God raised up a new leader for the new season. This leader would awaken God’s people to fight for the promise. He was a warrior who was anointed to possess the land.

We were born for such a time as this! We must also realize the Bible is clear that many are called but few are chosen. There are more than 300 million people who live in the U.S. Of those there are over 200 million who claim to be Christians. Many are called. Few are chosen.

What we have to realize is in order to be chosen we must respond God’s way. He calls Our response determines God’s reach.

Luke 18:22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 23 When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy… 29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God 30 will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come eternal life.” NIV

Jesus had said this phrase, “come, follow me” in personal conversations before in the Bible. The only time he did so was when he was inviting the disciples to follow him and ultimately become apostles. Jesus knew what was to come with Judas. Is it possible this man was supposed to be the 12th Apostle?

This man obviously believed and had kept the Law very well. It’s not like he wasn’t a Christian. Is it possible this man’s temporal affection cost him eternal reward?

Do you know what your mission is? And are you willing to build your life around that mission as our highest call and our greatest priority.

Leonard Ravenhill said, “Five minutes inside eternity and we will wish that we had sacrificed more, wept more, grieved more, loved and prayed more, and given more.”

UNDERSTANDING THE SEASON: We are designed to live in the deeper reality of God. This is the more certain reality of eternity which gave birth to the temporal realm that will one day pass away.

Matt 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. NIV

The eternal reality of God’s Word and God’s Truth will remain. Building our lives on this reality is what will last and must be our priority. Let’s go deeper together.

Isa 33:5-6 The LORD is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with his justice and righteousness. 6 He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure. NIV

We want to start our group meetings making room for conversation that brings confirmation that God is speaking to us all as we discuss what we are hearing from the Lord as a family:

DISCUSSION QUESTION:

• Where are you reading in your Bible and what are you sensing from God?

Please be sure you are in the loop. Put (405) 584-5767 in your phone as Destiny Text.

Mark 2:22 No one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins. NIV

A wineskin is an ancient container made of animal skin, usually a goat, used to transport liquids such as water, olive oil, milk or wine. A new wineskin skin comes from a recent death. The Bible is filled with illustration of illustration speaking about dying and living go hand-in-hand.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

• What are some common illustrations in our lives where we have to let go of what was in order to embrace what is to come?

• Why is it so easy to be so focused on the past causing us to miss possibilities of the future?

You can live a Christian life and not be aware of the presence of God. This is a dangerous reality that will leave you living a life that can be applauded by man but rejected by God

Living in the presence is living in the prophetic. Seeing and sensing what God is doing. Those who are led by the spirit of God are the sons and daughters of God (Romans 8:14). There are Christians who can go week after week never paying attention to what the Spirit is saying. Our lives are meant to be lived in a posture of availability to God.

(1 John 2) speaks of how the anointing teaches us. Through God’s spirit we can know things before we can explain them. Many times we sense something but can’t explain it immediately because we don’t understand them before we know them with God.

We bring GOD’S PRESENCE TO REAL LIFE Action Point:

Let this be a week of fasting and praying. Purpose a deeper hunger for God’s presence in your life and legacy.

Make sure you are taking time to listen and pray this week asking God what this is to look like for you in terms of meals you miss to purpose that time in God’s presence.

DISCUSSION QUESTION:

• As we conclude let’s make some time to just listen and pray together. Silence while we wait is a normal part  of listening so just quiet yourself and as anybody senses anything that might be from God lead out and pray.
