Blog: Mother's Intuition

Is Mother’s intuition a real thing?

A USA Today article referenced research conducted at the University of Arizona which stated, “Women who claimed to have an intuition about the gender of their child were right over 70% of the time.”

Often times I’ve heard people reference a statement like, “I just feel it in my gut.” Your gut actually contains 500 million neurons, connected to your brain. Some scientists have gone so far as to call this our second brain.

Clearly science points to this capacity for spiritual intelligence that actually exists within us all.

Some Christians say they’ve never heard the voice of God. This cannot be true. You cannot be born again if you did not hear God’s voice.

John 6:44-45 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them… 45 It is written in the Prophets: 'They will all be taught by God.' Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from him comes to me. NIV

Isaiah 54:13 All your children will be taught by the LORD, and great will be their peace. NIV

The language of the Bible reveals our design for spiritual intelligence in countless ways!

Romans 8:9,14 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His…14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons (and daughters) of God. NKJV

Ephesians 1:17-19 (I keep praying) that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in your knowledge of Him. 18 I ask that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know the hope of His calling, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and the surpassing greatness of His power to us who believe. (Berean Standard Bible)

There is always more going on than meets the eye. We are instructed to fix our eyes on that which is unseen because we are called to function in a different realm.

2 Corinthians 4:18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. NIV

We are working in this season to commission people to more personal ministry. This exposes us all to more spiritual activity for which we must be prepared by growing in maturity in the word, in prayer, in fellowship, in worship, etc.

Galatians 6:1 Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ…

Intercession is standing in gap. Some of your battles are not your own.

Greater spiritual strength and stamina are discovered in the context of community. We need each other!

Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. ESV

UNDERSTANDING THE SEASON: A shared meal could be the activity most closely tied to the reality of God’s kingdom, just as it is the most basic expression of hospitality. It comes as no surprise that many significant stories of Jesus are centered around a dinner table.

When Jesus wanted to explain to His disciples what his death was all about, he didn’t give them an informative lecture. He gave them a relational meal.

In a society that has grown so relationally disconnected, an invitation to Biblical hospitality might be one of the most compelling and irresistible aspects of Christianity. The heart of hospitality is about creating space for someone to feel seen and heard and loved. It’s about declaring your table a safe zone, a place of warmth and nourishment.

Great encouragement comes from rehearsing God’s Word. It is God’s plan for us to spend time drawing close to His heart and hearing His voice together as a family. This is why we start each meeting with this question first:

DISCUSSION QUESTION:

1. Where are you reading in your Bible and what are you sensing from God?

Ask each person in your group to answer the discussion questions below after reading the verses. Realize there is great power in just reading the Bible together and allowing the Holy Spirit to awaken his conversational nature in the group.

Galatians 6:1-9 Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ…9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. ESV

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

2. Have each person give a 60 second summary of what these verses are saying, in their own words.

3. What do these verses teach us about God and about people?

4. What should you do this week in response to what we are reading and what God is revealing?

5. We’ve been asked to come to the table with others exploring a deeper place of worship this week by making a simple relational effort to know God’s heart together. Who will you reach out to for a table conversation around the following idea? Let’s share next week how this went.
